Los Angeles Erupts in Jubilation as Los Angeles Dodgers Secure Second World Series Championship
The City of Angels witnessed citywide festivities after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series championship. Fans across the globe joined local residents in celebration, marking the initial time in 25 years that a team has secured back-to-back championships.
Celebration Parade Draws Enormous Turnout
Local celebrations featured a downtown parade on the morning of the parade, a reserved-seating event at Dodger Stadium, and spontaneous parties across the city.
Social media videos depict thousands of Angelenos flooding city center avenues, many carrying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a double-decker bus through the masses, raising the championship trophy high.
“My focus is already about the third time we’re going to do this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at Dodger Stadium, where the team emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist driving a Pacific blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Athlete Responses
Festivities began well before the parade, with supporters lighting fireworks in the roads of the city center on the previous evening.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the World Series’ Most Valuable Player, spoke directly about the victory.
“We refuse to lose,” Yamamoto said. “I adore this team. I love Los Angeles.”
Varied Responses and Community Spirit
However, Mark Walter was met with a cooler reception at the rally. Video footage from the event appear to show him taking the stage to a combination of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his address.
The World Series served as a bright spot in what has been a trying year for the city. An approximate 225,000 people showed up to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player Freddie Freeman, fans this year showed as much if not more support.
“I feel like it’s almost double from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
