Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones finished, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
