The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
