It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
