The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
