Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Showdown Versus the Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Houston Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial championship series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the Toronto squad in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
The veteran has now hit 23 total playoff homers, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than him with his playoff prowess," said manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of this game," he added.
The Blue Jays secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on this Friday.
