Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Might Finish... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the acclaimed sci-fi show reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team reflected on the viewer reception and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and fan theories regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“The experience is akin to force fed your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Regardless of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to adjust our writing,” says Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will the showrunner Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by public opinion, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
