What We Know Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting
A minimum of 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 sustained injuries when gunmen fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident Australian authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.
As of the newest reports, officials have confirmed the number of fatalities remains at 16, including one of the suspected gunmen. Additionally, 42 injured people were admitted to hospital.
The victims are still awaiting formally identified, but authorities state their ages range from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Known as a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Relatives and friends remembered him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, have his life ended in this way?” a family member said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.
She told the moments leading up to the attack, saying they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having faced unspeakable terror in their youth. They had later relocated to Australia from Eastern Europe.
Dan Elkayam
The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister expressed that France mourned with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This despicable act is a new, tragic manifestation of a disgusting rise of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.
One Child
A child who was rushed to the a children's hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was also killed during the attack, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people transported to hospitals, a significant number remain under care, with five in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who attended the scene.
One of the injured is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Described as a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Sources state he was wounded and underwent treatment in hospital.
In a message, he described the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the actions of those who rushed to help. He stated he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He said he heard “a large number” of shots.
“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
